boys and bugs

I can not figure out how to rotate these pics so you will just have to look at them sideways. Caleb caught a grasshopper, nasty looking thing. He though it was so cool. Did I mention -GROSS! He let is crawl all over his arm (YUCKY!) and then Melissa got interested in it. She did not want to touch it but was very curious as to what it was. She is more brave than I, I took these pictures through a closed glass door. No way was I going out there with such a nasty looking bug.
I will post pictures soon of Caleb playing flag football. He informed me last night he has a nickname from his team. They call him- shrimp. Ron and I laughed about this because all the boys on the team have at least 30-40 pounds on him and a good 6 inches. He is the smallest kid on the team. So Shrimp is appropriate.

Above are some pictures of the kids at the zoo. We let Melissa have an ice cream cone, which she loved of course. She liked looking at all the animals, but we cut the trip short. I was having pregnancy pains and it hurt too much to be walking around. Sad to say-no baby yet. I would have liked the baby to come yesterday, but I fear that since it is the last munchkin for our family I might make it to the due date. (Please God, no!!)

And last but not least for those of you that wanted too see my BIG FAT belly at full term there is a picture with Melissa in glasses, the black bump is my belly. This is ALL you will ever get. Why the fascination with seeing how I look pregnant? I look pregnant just like every other pregnant women out there. I feel like every other pregnant women out there, hormonal, irrational, tired, and in general bitchy. No one needs to see me at my worst, well almost the worst, delivery would be worse. And to answer that question-no pics or tape of the birth! Unless Ron wants to die young. Birth is a gross, slimy, dirty and PRIVATE business. We'll post pics of the little one to oh and ah over, and me looking perfect (HA HA!)

Here are some cute pics of Melissa. I LOVE sending them to everyone. The pics of Melissa in the grass were taken by Ron. He takes the kids to flag football practice. While Caleb practices, Melissa chases the bunnies in the park. You can see her point to one, when she sees them she kisses for them to come here, or will say "awwww". Too cute.

escape artist vs hell on wheels

Who knew a 15 month old could cause such chaos in a house? Or could stop a mother's heart in two seconds flat? And I can't decide which is worse: escape artist Melissa or hell on wheels Melissa.....

Escape Artist Melissa
Melissa learned how to open a sliding glass door today. As in from fully closed door to a opening to the wide open spaces of the backyard. I had to piddle, hence I did not take Melissa with me. I have learned to pee like it is an Olympic race, a 15 month old unattended for two seconds equals trouble. Hence, the potty trip today probably took 1.4 seconds. In this time Melissa learned to open the sliding glass door and make a break for the open space out there. I come out of the bathroom and the house is too quite. I yell for her. Of course there is no answer. Where is she?? I find her in the backyard (which is fully fenced, thank God!!) sitting next to Harlee (our big dog) eating dirt happy as can be. She is in the FARTHEST corner of the yard. How can such little legs cover such a great distance in the 5 seconds it takes me to locate her??

Melissa hell on wheels
I am working and talking with a co-worker on the phone, while I load laundry into the washing machine. (Yes, multi tasking is a must to run this house, manage the kids, dogs, other pets, accomplish getting some work done and procrastinating my homework.) Melissa if course is in the laundry room/pantry with me. Much to my error I have stored food on the bottom shelf in the pantry. Of course it NEVER occurred to me Melissa would find great joy in knocking the food to the floor. Which is exactly what happened. Glass shattered EVERYWHERE!! I hang up the phone, in bare feet and get Melissa out of there. She has broken a jar of queso and a jar of salsa. While I get Melissa out of there and do the inspection for bodily injury the dogs discover treats on the floor! Harlee slurping up queso with the fastest toungue in the west cuts herself. I start to clean up the mess, put the dogs outside. While I am working on this, Melissa opens the sliding glass door AGAIN and makes another run for it! AHHHHH! Some of you might think, why not lock this door. Because that is beyond my cognitive abilities at this moment in time, OK?! I ended up calling a friend to watch the baby while I clean up the mess. And then all is well again in the Peterson household.

At least all is well because I put Melissa in her crib and told her she had better take a nap for her own safety :) Seriously, I adore her. I adore Caleb too. He just happened to be out playing while all this happened today. (Smart boy). I love staying at home with the kids, even on days like today when I think Melissa got all her demonic urges from Ron.

Melissa is not the only one in the family that has these days. I will try to remember to post the story of Caleb and the dead Sparky.

Melissa's first, and why girls are important

Ok, it is the official first posting of the Peterson Family Blog. Like I will remember to update this with some consistancy.....YEEAAAH right! But I thought what Caleb said today would make a good first entry. He told me that he was in a fight at school and he hit a kid, not hard, just made his nose red. (Ooookkkaaay.) In other words I do not know the whole story. Apparently this kid he was in a fight with likes to bully others, especially girls. Here is part of our conversation:
Caleb: you can't hit girls, it is REAL bad
Me: yes it is.
Caleb: it is even against the law to hit girls.
Me (half listening): yes it is. Did you hit a girl??!!! I will be mad at you....
Caleb: NOO!!! I hit the kid that hits the girls.
Me: oh, OK
Caleb: Girls are more important than boys. That is why it is against the law to hit them. They are more important because the human race depends on them.
Me: we do? Why is that?
Caleb: because they give birth.

HA HA HA!! Ooooooh I laughed so hard. In other words birth is a HOT topic at the Peterson household. For the record I have at LEAST four more weeks of pregnancy, four hellish weeks! If all goes as I would like it the baby boy Peterson will be here ASAP. I am DONE with pregnancy. I would like my body back.

On another topic, our baby girl, Melissa, had her first kiss today. We had a playmate come over and play-Jack. He is the same age as Melissa. They play REALLY well together and for hours too!! Well, I got those wonderful drooly baby kisses from Jack. The dogs got those kisses, his mom too! Then he decided Melissa needs them as well. He grabbed her and PLANTED one on the mouth, his mouth was open and....well.....yuk! Later Melissa would lean in for these kisses. They shared many more during our play date. Yummy. And shhhh......don't tell Daddy Melissa has already been kissed! All in all it was sweet.

And another thing about this blog, it will be full of mis-spellings because I can't spell worth a darn, and full of typos as well because I am managing to try to do homework, manage kids, yell at Caleb to get his homework done, dogs are bumping me and mostly I am just too tired to care.
